President Claudia Sheinbaum sent on Monday, June 29, to Congress the nomination of Esteban Moctezuma as extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg.
The Mexican Foreign Ministry reported that the nomination was sent to the Permanent Commission of the Legislative Branch for ratification.
Moctezuma, who served as ambassador to the United States until May 2026, will have as his first task to coordinate the ratification of the Modernized Global Agreement with European Union member countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Sheinbaum instructed him to coordinate a strategy to increase trade exchange and generate new investments with the European bloc.
Mexico and the European Union signed the Modernized Global Agreement at the end of May in an event that included European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa.
