La presidenta Claudia Sheinbaum envió este lunes 29 de junio al Congreso el nombramiento de Esteban Moctezuma como embajador extraordinario y plenipotenciario ante la Unión Europea, Bélgica y Luxemburgo.

La Cancillería mexicana informó que el nombramiento fue enviado a la Comisión Permanente del Poder Legislativo para su ratificación.

Moctezuma, quien se desempeñó como embajador en Estados Unidos hasta mayo de 2026, tendrá como primera tarea coordinar la ratificación del Acuerdo Global Modernizado con los países miembros de la Unión Europea.

La Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores indicó que Sheinbaum le encomendó coordinar una estrategia para incrementar el intercambio comercial y generar nuevas inversiones con el bloque europeo.

México y la Unión Europea suscribieron el Acuerdo Global Modernizado a finales de mayo en un acto que incluyó a la presidenta de la Comisión Europea, Ursula von der Leyen, y al presidente del Consejo Europeo, António Costa.
