Smerz announce Easy EP and lead single Spring Summer

The Norwegian duo Smerz, consisting of Catharina Stoltenberg and Henriette Motzfeldt, have revealed details of their upcoming Easy EP, due out on May 15 via Escho. The release is led by the new song “Spring Summer.” The project stems from sessions following their previous album Big City Life.

Smerz described the origins of Easy EP in a press release. “At the tail end of finishing Big City Life last year, we made the song ‘Easy’ and from there went off on a tangent,” they said. “Many of Big City Life’s songs are rooted in specific stories, this Easy EP presented itself in a more open-ended process—almost like a daily journal. It began as a snapshot of a moment, one that was about to become our spring last year, and was finished moving into spring of 2026.” The EP is available for pre-save on the duo's Bandcamp page, as first reported by Pitchfork on April 22, 2026. The six-track release features titles including “Somewhere,” “Spring Summer 3 Beat,” “Its Here,” “Somewhere 2,” and “The Room You Described.” Smerz released their sophomore album Big City Life last year, which ranked No. 11 on Pitchfork's list of the 50 Best Albums of 2025. A track from it, “You Got Time and I Got Money,” placed No. 2 on their 100 Best Songs of 2025. In November 2025, they issued Big City Life Edits, featuring contributions from artists such as Clairo, ML Buch, Astrid Sonne, Erika de Casier, MIKE, and They Are Gutting a Body of Water, along with Elias Rønnenfelt, Fousheé, Clarissa Conelly, Fine, Yrdloop, New York, Haloplus+, Molina, Toxe, and Cezinando. The duo is currently touring North America and Europe.
