Tesla integrates Starlink on Cybercab for fleet needs

Tesla confirmed on Monday that it will equip Cybercab vehicles with Starlink V5 terminals. The integration aims to support company operations rather than passenger use.

The company announced the move as part of its Robotaxi fleet plans. Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s head of AI, clarified the purpose in a statement.

“It is still not required for safe operation of the vehicle. Connectivity is primarily meant for navigation, customer service and, in general, fleet management,” Elluswamy said.

Many observers had expected the terminals to provide internet access for riders during trips. Instead, the system will allow Tesla to maintain contact with vehicles for troubleshooting and other fleet tasks.

The Cybercab began production earlier this year. The Starlink feature adds a direct link to support unsupervised operations without affecting core vehicle safety.

Tesla has confirmed that its upcoming Cybercab robotaxi will include built-in Starlink V5 satellite connectivity. The announcement appeared in social media posts and a new display at the company's Santana Row showroom in San Jose.

Tesla is increasing output of its Cybercab Robotaxi at Giga Texas, with more than 100 units already in outbound lots. The two-seater vehicle lacks a steering wheel and pedals, as it is designed solely for unsupervised autonomy. Production of the first steering-wheel-less model began in February, with continuous manufacturing confirmed in April.

Tesla has released additional official documentation outlining safety features and operational guidelines for its Cybercab Robotaxi. The documents describe vehicle capabilities, emergency procedures, and limitations in various conditions. They confirm the vehicle is designed for SAE Level 4 autonomy in most scenarios.
