Tesla issues recall for Cybertruck light bar detachment

Tesla has initiated a voluntary recall for 6,197 model year 2024 Cybertrucks due to off-road light bars detaching from adhesive failure caused by an incorrect primer. The company is implementing a new fix using mechanical brackets and tape to secure the $2,700 accessory. This marks the third recall for the Cybertruck in 2025.

The Cybertruck, first revealed in 2023, features a distinctive off-road light bar as one of its innovative design elements. However, reports emerged of the light bar detaching, posing safety risks as proper lighting is essential for driving and compliance with road laws.

The voluntary recall affects Cybertrucks manufactured between November 13, 2023, and November 5, 2024. According to Tesla's revision notice dated November 13, 2025, the issue stemmed from an incorrect surface primer used during installation, leading to adhesive failure. Initially, a primer was identified as the culprit, but Tesla has now updated the process.

To address this, Tesla is applying four fasteners and two brackets alongside double-sided tape for adhesion. The notice details 'updated the adhesion process with double-sided tape direction' and includes 'LH/RH body bracket R&I steps.' Owners will receive free inspections of the service-installed light bar, with replacements provided if delamination or damage is found. The new light bar will be 'adhered with tape and a positive mechanical attachment.'

This recall follows two earlier ones in 2025, underscoring ongoing quality control challenges for the EV pickup truck. Tesla's solution aims to ensure the light bar remains secure, potentially improving the feature's reliability.
