The Afghan Whigs announce new album Soft Control

The Afghan Whigs have revealed plans for their tenth studio album and an accompanying fall tour. The record marks the band's first new LP in four years.

The Afghan Whigs will release Soft Control on August 21 via Royal Cream/BMG. The album follows their 2022 record How Do You Burn? and features the lead single Jungle Roux. Greg Dulli explained that the title draws from a David Bowie quote about aging and self-acceptance. He noted a shift from earlier anger-driven work to a quieter confidence gained through other art forms. The band recorded 22 songs across sessions in Joshua Tree, New Orleans, East Hollywood, and Cincinnati before selecting 10 tracks. The fall tour will cover Europe and North America, with Ed Harcourt supporting the European dates and Night Moves joining for North America.
