Unattended bag causes bomb scare at Mombasa airport

A bomb scare occurred at Moi International Airport in Mombasa yesterday when an unattended bag was discovered near the VIP parking area. Bomb disposal experts arrived promptly on site, while efforts were made to evacuate passengers to a safe location.

Airport police commander Evans Mose stated that they took measures to ensure the safety of passengers and airport staff. “We took steps to ensure there was no danger in that area while waiting for the bomb disposal experts to arrive,” Mose said.

He revealed that officers on duty spotted the bag and cordoned off the area for safety reasons. The bomb squad used technology to examine the bag, resulting in a significant controlled explosion that caused panic but was quickly managed.

No injuries were reported during the incident, and no airport buildings were damaged. “The situation is now normal and operations are proceeding as usual,” Mose added.

Police confirmed the bag contained equipment used for inflating vehicle tires. It is suspected the bag was accidentally left behind by a passenger, and investigations continue to identify the owner.
