Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Pyongyang on Monday for a two-day state visit and held talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Both sides pledged to consolidate political mutual trust and boost practical cooperation.
Xi received a grand welcome ceremony at Kim Il Sung Square, including a 21-gun salute and performances of the national anthems. Kim and his wife greeted Xi and his wife at the airport before the leaders held talks at the Kumsusan State Guest House. Xi put forward four proposals, stressing that the two sides should be guided by high-level exchanges to consolidate political trust and seize opportunities such as the full reopening of border crossings to expand people-to-people exchanges. Both agreed to hold grand events marking the 65th anniversary of the China-DPRK Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance. Kim said the DPRK-China relationship is unbreakable and reaffirmed support for China's positions. Xi's trip marks his first overseas visit this year and his first to Pyongyang since 2019.
