1,882 high-risk inmates transferred to nusakambangan throughout 2025

A total of 1,882 high-risk inmates from across Indonesia have been transferred to correctional facilities on Nusakambangan Island, Central Java, throughout 2025. The transfers aim to enhance security and order in prisons and detention centers nationwide. The latest batch involved 130 inmates from Jambi, Riau, and Banten on December 27, 2025.

Directorate General of Corrections (Dirjenpas) Director Mashudi stated that by the end of 2025, a total of 1,882 high-risk inmates have been transferred to maximum or super-maximum security facilities on Nusakambangan Island. The transfers are intended to eliminate potential security and order disruptions while implementing rehabilitation tailored to risk levels.

"Up to the end of this year, we have transferred a total of 1,882 high-risk inmates from across Indonesia to Nusakambangan. We hope this effort will have a significant impact on improving security and order in prisons and detention centers, especially achieving zero narcotics and cell phones as always emphasized by Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto," Mashudi said in his statement.

The primary goal is to change inmates' behavior for the better, help them recognize their mistakes, and prepare them to reintegrate into society as good citizens. On December 27, 2025, 130 inmates from Jambi, Riau, and Banten were moved to various facilities on Nusakambangan: 5 to Batu Prison, 31 to Karanganyar Prison, 17 to Besi Prison, 30 to Gladakan Prison, 17 to Narkotika Prison, and 30 to Ngaseman Prison.

The process was escorted by the Directorate of Security and Intelligence of Dirjenpas, regional office staff, and police. Head of Batu Prison and Nusakambangan Regional Coordinator Irfan explained that reception followed standard operating procedures (SOP), including health checks and other administrative activities.

This initiative is expected to contribute to a safer correctional environment, aligning with Minister Agus Andrianto's directives to eliminate narcotics and mobile phones in these facilities.
