Police in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture, have arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of non-consensual sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old girl in a hotel in Kariya City in February.
According to police, Ryuta Sato, whose occupation is unknown, is accused of sexually assaulting the girl while fully aware that she was a minor. Sato and the girl reportedly met through social media.
The case came to light in April after the girl's parents consulted the police. Sato, who was arrested on Thursday, has remained silent during questioning.
