27-year-old Tunisian man charged over planned Paris museum attack

A 27-year-old Tunisian man was arrested on May 7 and charged on Monday with planning a jihadist attack on a Paris museum, possibly the Louvre.

The man, born in Djerba in 1999 and who arrived in France in 2022, lived in La Garenne-Colombes. He is suspected of planning an attack on the Louvre museum and members of the Jewish community, while also considering joining Islamic State ranks in Syria or Mozambique.

His phone contained jihadist propaganda videos, photos of weapons and searches on bomb-making via ChatGPT. A video showed him raising his finger while proclaiming « Allah Akbar ».

At the end of his custody, he was placed in provisional detention on orders from the national anti-terrorism prosecutor's office. A judicial investigation was opened for terrorist criminal association with a view to committing crimes, with the inquiry assigned to the DGSI.
