35mm film slides of Super Mario 64 emerge in auctions

Promotional 35mm film slides from the 1990s featuring Super Mario 64 have begun appearing in online auctions. The items originate from Nintendo of America’s media strategy firm Golin/Harris International. Preservationists note their potential historical value due to high-resolution captures of early Nintendo 64 imagery.

The preservation channel Hard4Games has observed a rise in auction listings for these small film slides. They contain official images that once appeared in magazines and on game packaging.

Despite their compact size, the slides offer resolution equivalent to 4K to 6K digital quality. This provides clearer views of games from the Nintendo 64 era than previously available.

Listings have already reached hundreds of dollars. Some recent examples raise questions about authenticity among collectors.

Archivists suggest additional slides could surface with unreleased or prototype game content. Such materials would supplement limited existing records from the period.
