A 79-year-old mainland Chinese man who went missing while hiking on Hong Kong’s MacLehose Trail was found conscious by rescuers on Monday afternoon, the third day of the search. He Chengan was airlifted to Tuen Mun Hospital and is in stable condition.
He Chengan, 79, from mainland China, had gone missing on Saturday while hiking Section 10 of the MacLehose Trail near Tai Lam Chung Reservoir in Tuen Mun, where he was last seen. After an intensive search involving police, firefighters, the Government Flying Service, and the Civil Aid Service amid rainstorm warnings, rescuers located him conscious near Kwan Tai Temple in Tai Tong on Monday afternoon.
He was covered in sand, missing both shoes (one found nearby), and had personal belongings including a black shoulder bag, two women’s jackets, a vacuum-insulated food jar, a surgical mask, nearly HK$200 in cash, a key, and health supplements. Rescuers placed him on a stretcher, covered him with a foil blanket, and airlifted him via government helicopter to Tuen Mun Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
His age was corrected from an initial report of 81 to 79.
