AHL free agency opens with flurry of signings

The American Hockey League free agency period began at noon ET on July 1, prompting numerous players to sign new contracts. Many will vie for NHL roster spots at September training camps.

Free agency’s opening week featured several notable deals. Forward Vinni Lettieri agreed to a one-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs after leading the Calder Cup Playoffs in scoring for the champion Toronto Marlies.

Top defensemen also moved. Zac Jones signed a two-year, two-way deal with the Utah Mammoth after winning the Eddie Shore Award in 2025-26. Jack Ahcan inked a two-year, two-way pact with the Nashville Predators following a 50-point season, while Scott Perunovich joined the Los Angeles Kings on a one-year, two-way agreement.

Additional transactions included trades and signings involving teams such as the Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks. More than 75 players secured new roles in the first two days, with further moves expected.
