Alexandra Eala shares views on self-centered tennis players

Alexandra Eala addressed perceptions of tennis players as self-centered during a recent press conference. The Filipino player emphasized that any such trait stems from personal character rather than the sport itself.

Eala spoke at a BPI press conference after reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon. She stated that competition requires players to prioritize themselves to a certain extent.

“I don’t think that’s true. And if someone is self-centered, I don’t think it’s because they are a tennis player,” Eala said. “I think maybe they’re just being self-centered because that’s who they are.”

She described her tournament approach as focused on one match at a time. “The way I approach tournaments is kind of match by match, round by round,” Eala added. “I do want to get as far as I possibly can. Of course, the ultimate goal is to win, right? But I take it round by round, yeah.”

Eala credited her support team, including coach Joan Bosch, for helping maintain balance amid the individual demands of the sport.
