Asher White releases full cover of Jessica Pratt's debut album

Musician Asher White has unveiled a complete cover album of Jessica Pratt's 2012 self-titled debut, reimagining each track with her unique style. Pratt has praised the project as more than mere homage, calling it a standalone record. The release coincides with announcements of White's upcoming tour dates.

Asher White's new project transforms Jessica Pratt's influential 2012 debut album into something fresh and inventive. Released on February 4, 2026, the cover album features White performing all original songs by Pratt, infusing them with her distinctive touch. White handles an impressive array of over a dozen instruments, including vocals, electric and acoustic guitar, banjo, bass, drums, electronics, percussion, prepared piano, string arrangements, synths, and programming. She is assisted by Bee Clark on vocals for the track "Casper" and Lila Lifton on violin for "Midnight Wheels."

White's inspiration traces back to late 2021, just before her 21st birthday, when she first encountered Pratt's album. As she explained, "At some point it became one of those records I’d listened to so many times that I would find myself unconsciously singing phantom harmonies alongside it, or hearing arrangements that didn’t exist; eventually the specter of these imagined arrangements became substantive enough that I decided it would be a fun exercise to try and learn the whole record to actualize my fantasies." She further reflected, "This is to say: my ability to hastily fashion together a working album from these songs is a testament to the music’s enduring power, its durability and pliability, its simplicity and sense of inevitability, and also just how much it has meant to me in my life."

Jessica Pratt herself expressed delight in a press release: "White’s curiously inventive renditions took me by surprise. A broad sweep stylistically and production-wise. Not just homage, but a record in its own right."

This cover follows White's 2025 release, 8 Tips for Full Catastrophe Living. To support the album, White has scheduled a headlining tour beginning in late April. Dates include April 28 at Elsewhere Zone One in Brooklyn, New York, followed by West Coast stops in May: May 5 at Che Cafe in San Diego, California; May 7 at Zebulon in Los Angeles; May 8 at The Bunker in San Luis Obispo; May 9 at Eli’s Mile High Club in Oakland; May 12 at Swan Dive in Portland, Oregon; May 13 at Sunset Tavern in Seattle, Washington; and May 15 at Smith House in Santa Cruz, California.
