Bahrain horse racing club advances sustainability with solar project

The Rashid Equestrian and Racing Club in Bahrain has signed a power purchase agreement to implement a solar energy project, aiming to enhance sustainability in the horse racing sector. Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, chairman of the club's supreme committee, emphasized the initiative's role in modernizing facilities and supporting national development goals. The project is expected to exceed the club's energy needs and reduce carbon emissions.

Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Minister of the Royal Court and Chairman of the Supreme Committee of the Rashid Equestrian and Racing Club, met with His Excellency Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed Mohamed, Chairman of the Electricity and Water Authority, to review cooperation on renewable energy projects. The discussion highlighted the adoption of innovative technologies to improve infrastructure, operational efficiency, and sustainability.

Shaikh Isa described the solar energy generation project as a key component of the club's development efforts. He noted that it would improve operational performance and modernize facilities, while the power purchase agreement with the Electricity and Water Authority would strengthen collaboration on sustainable energy initiatives.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Yousif Osama Bu Haji, a member of the Supreme Committee and acting CEO of the Rashid Equestrian and Racing Club, and Engineer Ali Al Nuaim, Vice Chairman for Electricity Affairs at the Electricity and Water Authority. The signing took place in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.

Mr. Bu Haji stated that the solar project's expected annual output would exceed the club's energy needs, enabling efficient energy use, reduced carbon emissions, and a transition toward sustainability. He added that it would boost Bahrain’s international standing in horse racing.

Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed Mohamed expressed appreciation for Shaikh Isa’s efforts in fostering partnerships that advance horse racing and renewable energy development, wishing the club continued success.

Engineer Ali Al Nuaim praised the initiative, saying it aligns with national renewable energy targets and the Electricity and Water Authority’s plan to increase renewable energy’s share to 20% by 2035. He described the project as a model for government entities to adopt innovative, clean energy solutions.

These efforts aim to ensure the long-term sustainability of Bahrain’s horse racing sector, reinforce the club’s role as a leading sports and tourism hub, and support the Kingdom’s broader development agenda under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the guidance of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
