Blaze unveils Spectrum and C64 handheld consoles

Blaze Entertainment, through its Hyper Mega Tech division, has announced handheld versions of the classic 1980s computers ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64. The devices, named The Spectrum Handheld and The C64 Handheld, are set to launch on October 15. Pre-orders are open now.

The handhelds feature a clamshell design measuring 136mm wide, 26mm high, and 86mm deep, with a 4.3-inch IPS screen. Each includes a d-pad, four face buttons, four function buttons, and menu, start, and select buttons. They come with speakers, a headphone jack, and a MicroSD card slot for additional games. The Spectrum version also has a USB I/O port for keyboards and joysticks, while button designs vary slightly between the two, including rubber function keys on the Spectrum model. Color schemes draw from the original computers' aesthetics. Both are priced at £109.99, with limited editions at £129.99 exclusive to FunStock, including a hardshell case and replica magazines—Crash! for Spectrum and Zzap! for C64. Each handheld packs 25 built-in games from their respective systems. The C64 lineup features titles like Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe, Paradroid, and Nebulus. Spectrum games include Manic Miner, Head Over Heels, and Skool Daze. Hyper Mega Tech, known for devices like the Super Pockets—which will expand with a Rare-themed edition in June—produced these solidly built handhelds.
