Evercade unveils Nexus handheld with analogue sticks

Evercade has announced the Evercade Nexus, its next-generation retro gaming handheld set for an October 2026 launch. The device introduces analogue sticks for the first time in the lineup, along with a larger screen and wireless multiplayer features. Pre-orders open today for the standard edition at £169.99 and a limited 64 Edition.

Blaze, the creator behind Evercade's retro gaming devices, revealed the Nexus as the successor to the 2024 EXP-R model. Unlike its predecessor, which relied solely on a D-pad, the Nexus includes analogue sticks to better support 3D classics such as the Evercade versions of Legacy of Kain and Tomb Raider. To highlight this upgrade, it bundles Rare's Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie on a cartridge with case and manual, Blaze said in the announcement. The sticks also function as an arcade stick in TATE mode for vertical games. Blaze described additional hardware improvements, including a 5.98-inch IPS screen with 500 nits brightness—larger than the EXP-R's 4.3-inch display—textured triggers, WiFi 6 for updates, and front-facing stereo speakers that support wireless headphones. On software, the Nexus retains core Evercade features like the game library, save states, and display options, with battery life estimated at five hours via USB-C charging. The standard Nexus is priced at £169.99/€199.99/$199.99, with pre-orders starting April 1. The limited Nexus 64 Edition, featuring N64-inspired buttons, screen protector, poster, and certificate, costs £189.99/€229.99/$229.99 and is available now through Funstock in a run of 2000 units. This follows the recent reveal of a Rare-themed Super Pocket handheld launching in June for £49.99/€59.99/$69.99.
