Bnn dismantles cross-island drug network using vapes for concealment

Indonesia's National Narcotics Agency (BNN) dismantled a drug trafficking network linking North Sumatra and Central Sulawesi in a joint operation this week. The raid seized 985 ecstasy pills and hundreds of vape liquids suspected of containing narcotics. The breakthrough began with tracking a suspicious package at Kualanamu Airport.

In a joint operation conducted this week, Indonesia's National Narcotics Agency (BNN) uncovered a cross-island drug distribution network connecting North Sumatra and Central Sulawesi. The investigation started with the tracking of a suspicious package at Kualanamu Airport in North Sumatra, intended for Central Sulawesi. Authorities traced the supply chain to a boarding house in Medan, North Sumatra.

BNN Chief, Police Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto, highlighted the perpetrators' increasing creativity in concealment methods. "Perpetrators are getting more creative in finding loopholes. Vapes are no longer just for lifestyle but as tools to disguise narcotic distribution. This is an alarm for all of us," he stated in a confirmed release from Jakarta on Sunday.

Suyudi warned that the misuse of vape liquids containing narcotics could unwittingly create a new generation of users. "Young people who think they're just trying vapes can be exposed to dangerous substances without knowing. The dangers are not only addictive but can permanently damage the nervous system," he said.

The seized vape items are currently under laboratory examination to confirm the levels of prohibited substances. Suyudi pointed out the weak market oversight for vape liquids, particularly unregistered imports entering via online logistics and couriers. BNN has coordinated with the Directorate General of Customs and Excise and the Ministry of Health to bolster supervision. "Don't let regulatory gray areas be exploited by syndicates," he emphasized.
