Engr. Winnie Angit, a Kitaotao town official, passed through the Marilog road section minutes before a landslide struck on July 17.
Engr. Winnie Angit, planning and development coordinator of the local government of Kitaotao in Bukidnon, was driving home from Davao City on the evening of July 17. He crossed Sitio Marahan in Barangay Marilog Proper on the Davao-Bukidnon Road shortly before the landslide hit at around 7 p.m.
Angit reached his home in Sinuda, Kitaotao, and learned of the incident about 20 minutes later through social media. He recalled the close call, stating, “I was there just minutes before the earth came down. Thank you, God.”
The landslide damaged 11 houses according to the Davao City Social Welfare and Development Office, with five destroyed and six partially damaged. The affected road section was closed, and the Department of Public Works and Highways-11 diverted traffic to an alternate route while warning of slippery conditions from ongoing rains.
