Canada adds NHL prospects to world championship squad

Hockey Canada announced Tuesday that forward Porter Martone and Dawson Mercer will join the national team ahead of the world championship opener against Sweden on Friday.

The 19-year-old Martone, selected sixth overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2025 NHL draft, impressed during his first nine regular-season games with ten points. He previously appeared in two games for Canada at last year's tournament in Stockholm but saw limited ice time. Mercer brings experience from the 2022 and 2024 world championships and recorded 42 points in 82 games with the New Jersey Devils this season.
