CBI launches AI helpbot Abhay to verify notices

The Central Bureau of Investigation has launched an AI-based helpbot called Abhay to authenticate CBI notices and protect citizens from cyber fraud and digital arrest scams.

The Central Bureau of Investigation announced the launch of its AI-powered helpbot Abhay. The system allows citizens to verify the authenticity of CBI notices through the agency’s official website.

The agency described cyber-enabled fraud as a growing challenge. It noted that advances in artificial intelligence and deepfakes have made it harder for people to separate genuine communications from fabricated ones.

In digital arrest scams, fraudsters issue fake notices to lure victims into compliance. They then conduct a sham legal process that keeps targets under surveillance for days under a concept with no basis in Indian law.

Citizens can access Abhay at any time via www.cbi.gov.in, the CBI stated.
