The Boston Celtics traded Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday for Paul George and four draft picks. The move ends Brown's decade-long tenure with the team after a championship and Finals MVP in 2024.
Brown, selected third overall in the 2016 NBA Draft, averaged 28.7 points per game last season while leading the Celtics to the East's No. 2 seed. He issued a statement on Thursday expressing mixed emotions about the trade.
"I'm still processing how this all went down. I'm excited and disappointed at the same time," Brown wrote. He added that actions speak louder than words and thanked the Boston community.
The Celtics received Paul George, who is 36, along with two first-round picks and two second-round picks. Reports indicated Boston had been actively shopping Brown in recent days amid reported strains in his relationship with the organization.
Brown is owed $183 million over the next three seasons and was eligible for a $142 million extension. The trade leaves the Celtics entering the 2026-27 season with significant uncertainty alongside Jayson Tatum.
