China forms team to investigate deadly hunan fireworks plant explosion

China's State Council has set up an investigation team to examine a fireworks plant explosion in Liuyang, Hunan Province. The blast killed 37 people, left one missing and injured 51 others.

The explosion took place at around 4:43 p.m. on Monday in Liuyang, a city under Changsha in Hunan Province. It left 37 people dead, one missing and 51 injured as of Friday noon.

The investigation team was formed under the State Council and is led by the Ministry of Emergency Management. Members include officials from the Ministry of Public Security, the General Administration of Customs, the State Administration for Market Regulation, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions and the Hunan provincial government.

At its first meeting on Friday afternoon, the team outlined plans to determine the causes and assign responsibility. It also called on local authorities to strengthen safety rules in the fireworks sector and remove hidden risks.
