Chinese student team wins Abu Dhabi robot showdown championship

A Chinese student team, Fierce Roc, has won the Battle of the Robots at Abu Dhabi's Games of the Future with their robot Deep-Sea Shark 3. In the final, they slammed their rival into the glass wall, sending sparks flying. The event is part of a multi-sport festival blending physical and digital games from December 17 to 23.

The Battle of the Robots was staged as part of Abu Dhabi's Games of the Future, a multi-sport festival featuring so-called “phygital” games—sports that blend real-world competition with digital or esports-style components—running from December 17 to 23.

The robot, dubbed Deep-Sea Shark 3, was built by a China-based student team calling itself Fierce Roc. They reached the final after a string of knockout bouts and a semi-final win over the US-based Team Cobalt, organizers said.

In the showdown, Deep-Sea Shark 3 delivered a powerful kick that slammed the rival bot into the glass wall, with sparks flying. This decisive action crowned Fierce Roc as champions, according to organizers.

“We faced many challenges on the road to this competition, but we managed to overcome them together,” team captain Luo Yuchen was quoted as saying in the event write-up. “The dedication of our engineers and the strength of our teamwork were key to this victory.”

The win underscores the rising competitiveness of Chinese teams in global robotics events.
