Curry Barker set to direct A24's Texas Chainsaw Massacre film reimagining

In the latest development for A24's Texas Chainsaw Massacre projects, upstart filmmaker Curry Barker has been tapped to direct the feature film reimagining, following the studio's February acquisition of franchise rights. The move caps Barker's rapid Hollywood ascent amid multiple high-profile gigs.

Variety reports that Curry Barker will helm A24's reimagining of Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel's 1974 horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Details of Barker's take on Leatherface and his cannibalistic family remain secret.

This film joins the previously announced TV series from Barnstorm's Glen Powell and Dan Cohen, directed by JT Mollner. The core production team mirrors the earlier lineup: producers Roy Lee and Steven Schneider (Spooky Pictures), Stuart Manashil, Exurbia Films' Pat Cassidy and Ian Henkel, and Kim Henkel (original co-creator), with Ben Ross (Image Nation) as executive producer.

Barker's hiring follows his breakout: the $14M Toronto sale of Obsession (upcoming from Focus Features), about a man's fatal fixation on a friend; his $800 YouTube debut Milk & Serial; and his current Blumhouse shoot Anything But Ghosts, where he directs, co-writes, and stars as fake ghost hunters meeting real ones. Previously of sketch duo That's a Bad Idea with Cooper Tomlinson, Barker is repped by Underground Management, UTA, and The Lede Company.

A24 won the competitive rights auction last year (announced February 2026), beating Blumhouse and others, with Verve handling representation. For prior coverage on the acquisition and TV series, see the A24 Texas Chainsaw Massacre Revival series.
