A young man was shot dead and another injured in Stenebergsparken in Gävle's Brynäs district on Saturday evening. Police have arrested a 25-year-old suspected of murder and attempted murder, linking the incident to gang crime. It is the third fatal shooting in Gävle this year, raising concerns among residents.
The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. on Saturday evening, October 25, 2025, in Stenebergsparken in Brynäs, Gävle. The alarm came in after residents heard about ten shots – first four or five, then a pause followed by more. Police found two injured young men aged 18-19: one in the park near the playground and the other about 100-200 meters away at a school. One died from his injuries, while the injured has been interviewed by police.
Both victims were known to police previously and are believed to have been the intended targets in a gang-related incident. 'It is gang-related, that's what we can say', states community police officer Måns Jennehag. Local police chief Temo Allenbäck adds that all involved are known and that loyalties between criminal groups shift, without tying it to specific networks like G10 or G20. Police assess that at least two involved are from Gävle, and the age of both victims and perpetrators is decreasing.
During the night, a man in his mid-20s from Gävle was arrested and remanded in custody on Sunday on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. He is also known to police. On Sunday afternoon, police found a weapon in bushes near the crime scene during new cordons, linked to the investigation.
The incident is the third fatal shooting in Gävle this year and follows a similar event on October 4, when six people were shot outside a bar on Södra Kungsgatan – a 13- or 14-year-old is suspected there. Residents express fear: 'It feels scary', says 13-year-old Saria Åslund. Brynäs resident Zarif worries about children's safety: 'One might not even leave the children outside alone'. Malin mentions drug dealing in the park: 'There are so many criminals here'. Police are working to increase safety amid the ongoing gang conflict.
