Dewi Sukarno expresses regret in assault trial

Dewi Sukarno, an 86-year-old TV personality, told a Tokyo court she was very regretful over assaulting her assistant and manager in 2025.

At the first hearing at the Tokyo District Court, Dewi Sukarno broadly admitted to the charges. Prosecutors said she threw a champagne glass at her assistant in a Shibuya restaurant in February 2025 and struck her manager at an animal hospital in October 2025 after her dog died.

Dewi said she did not clearly remember the incidents but acknowledged she should not have thrown objects at people. She disclosed financial losses of about 90 million yen after her television appearances were canceled.

She was indicted without arrest in March following a referral by the Metropolitan Police Department in January. Dewi once headed an organization promoting the welfare of dogs and cats and is the widow of former Indonesian President Sukarno.
