Egypt has received more than 21 tonnes of French medical aid to support hospitals treating wounded people from Gaza, while Cairo and Paris discussed expanding cooperation on the universal health insurance programme.
Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with Eléonore Caroit, France’s Minister Delegate for Francophonie, International Partnerships and French Nationals Abroad, in the presence of French Ambassador Éric Chevallier.
The sides reviewed delivery of medical supplies and essential medicines from France and discussed cooperation with the French Development Agency on the second phase of Egypt’s universal health insurance programme, set to expand to six additional governorates.
Abdel Ghaffar said Egypt’s healthcare system is operating at full capacity to treat Palestinians evacuated from Gaza and people arriving from Sudan as part of its humanitarian responsibility.
Caroit praised Egypt’s role in responding to regional health emergencies and expressed France’s interest in trilateral programmes to support healthcare development in African countries.
