Eleven-year-old taken into care after Gävle murder plot

An eleven-year-old boy from Västerbotten has been taken into care under LVU after backing out of a murder assignment around Christmas 2025. He now faces threats from the criminals who hired him, and police assess the risk as high. The administrative court ordered placement in a foster home due to care deficiencies.

An eleven-year-old boy from Västerbotten in northern Sweden took on an assignment with a friend to murder a person in the Gävle area around Christmas 2025, according to the administrative court's ruling. Just two hours before they were to take the train to Gävle, the boy backed out, realizing the risks and fearing he might be killed himself.

The friend was arrested by police in Gävle and revealed the plans, prompting an alert to social services. Afterward, the eleven-year-old received threats from the instigators, who considered him in debt to them. Police assess the boy as having high-risk behavior and at risk of being victimized or committing serious violent crimes.

The boy has been placed in a foster home under LVU, the law with special provisions on care of young people. The court cites care deficiencies at home, with multiple concern reports from schools over several years. Social services have investigated the family since 2022 due to neglect, domestic violence, and truancy.

According to police, the boy was involved in the planning and is suspected of ties to a criminal network. The parents have previously declined support and do not understand why their son has been placed elsewhere.
