Eli and Peyton Manning ensure football accuracy in Chad Powers

Hulu's sports comedy Chad Powers benefited from the expertise of NFL brothers Eli and Peyton Manning, who served as executive producers to guarantee authentic football details. Their involvement helped star Glen Powell master quarterback skills for his role. The show, which premiered on September 30 and wrapped its first season in late October, draws from Eli Manning's original skit.

Hulu's six-episode series Chad Powers, created by Glen Powell and Michael Waldron, has attracted fans since its September 30 premiere. Inspired by Eli Manning's skit Eli's Places, the show concluded its initial season at the end of October. The production's authenticity stems from the hands-on role of Eli and Peyton Manning, both executive producers.

The brothers contributed by sourcing props, securing arenas, obtaining rights for college team uniforms, and verifying every technical football element. They also coached Powell on transforming into his character Chad Powers, emphasizing real quarterback training. Powell, playing disgraced quarterback Russ Holliday who disguises himself to join a college team, received guidance on stance and on-field cadence from the Mannings.

Powell highlighted the challenge: "It's a very specialized skill set to be a quarterback, especially someone at this level. The ask is really high to sell it properly." Eli Manning, deeply engaged in the football specifics, noted the show's intent to inject levity into the sport: "I think when you think sports, it's got to be serious; it's got to be big pep talks and all business. With this, it brings in more of a lighter side."

In the series, Holliday partners with mascot Danny, played by Frankie A. Rodriguez, to address past mistakes as an arrogant athlete. The narrative explores a redemption arc, blending slapstick humor with character growth. While some critics call it formulaic, the show's simplicity and Powell's committed performance create an endearing comedy, reminiscent of lighter sports tales without the heavier optimism of shows like Ted Lasso.
