Ethiopia records tangible results in tobacco control

Ethiopia's Food and Drug Authority announced concrete achievements in tobacco control during World No Tobacco Day celebrations. Committees were formed in eight regions and nearly 900,000 institutions were inspected.

The authority outlined work completed to mark this year's World No Tobacco Day. Coordination committees were established and strengthened in eight regions.

Nearly 900,000 institutions were inspected to confirm they are smoke-free. Owners received awareness training, and tobacco leaves and cigarettes intended for smoking were removed.

The authority called on civil society organizations and the media to help close policy gaps, expose misleading industry advertisements, and share accurate health information.
