Ex-pro raises doubts on Serena Williams Wimbledon return

Former ATP player Greg Rusedski has questioned how far Serena Williams can go in her singles comeback at Wimbledon. The 44-year-old received a wildcard for the women's singles draw after announcing her return on Monday.

Rusedski said on his podcast that the challenge is steep at her age. “At 44 years of age it's much more difficult,” he noted. “You have to win seven matches in two weeks. She doesn’t even have a warm-up tournament.”

He added that doubles play, which Williams has used recently, does not serve as proper preparation for singles. Still, Rusedski acknowledged her serious approach after six months of training and her history of defying expectations.

Williams will also compete in doubles with her sister Venus for the first time since 2016. She has prepared by practicing with Maria Sakkari, a shift from her usual routine of working only with her team.
