The cult Swedish porn film Fäbodjäntan from 1978 is now being staged as a theater production at Dramaten in Stockholm by the feminist collective ÖFA. The production has generated high interest, leading to extra performances due to ticket demand. The film was shot in Skattungbyn in Dalarna and has left lasting memories in the local community.
The porn film Fäbodjäntan, shot in Skattungbyn outside Orsa in 1978, has achieved cult status since its premiere. Many in the village initially believed the filming was about traditional rural life, but the cinema premiere at Röda Kvarn in Orsa shocked audiences with its content. “Many felt deceived, a general shame in the community,” says Johan Borg, whose family farm was used during the shoot.
Nearly 50 years later, the film is being brought back to life as a newly written stage production at Dramaten. The feminist stage collective ÖFA is behind the production, scheduled for spring 2026. Tickets sold out quickly, prompting decisions for extra performances. “We are very excited and looking forward to it, but it will be super fun,” say members of the collective.
In Skattungbyn, the memories persist, and the film still attracts visitors. “Many young people come into the shop where I work and ask where they filmed the movie. So it definitely draws people here,” says Nina Lindunger from the village's cultural association. The association has long joked about the film and seen potential in using it to boost the village's appeal. 22 villagers plan to travel to Stockholm in their colorful Orsadräkter to watch the performance with reserved seats at the front.
