Fans mark first official Global Beatles Day

The Beatles and Apple Corps have officially recognised June 25 as Global Beatles Day for the first time. Fans worldwide joined celebrations marking the 1967 live satellite broadcast of 'All You Need Is Love'. A newly colourised version of the performance was released to mark the occasion.

The band’s official recognition builds on a fan-led initiative that began in 2009. Founded by lifelong supporter Faith Cohen, the day now receives formal backing from the group and its company.

To mark the event, a colourised version of the 1967 Our World broadcast was shared on YouTube. The original performance reached an estimated 400 million viewers and featured John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr at Abbey Road Studios.

Band members shared messages with fans. McCartney wrote: “Have a great time on what is now Global Beatles Day (good group!).” Ringo Starr posted: “All you need is love, love peace and love.”

Additional tributes included a 15-minute performance by Jacob Collier and a mass rendition by Rockin’1000 at Allianz Stadium in Turin. Apple Corps CEO Tom Greene described the day’s message of community and connection as especially timely.
