Francisco Lindor expected to return for Mets on Wednesday

Francisco Lindor is on track to come off the injured list and rejoin the New York Mets later this week. The shortstop is likely to make his return no earlier than Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs.

Lindor played a second rehab game on Sunday with Triple-A Syracuse. He went 0-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored while handling several defensive chances at shortstop.

Manager Carlos Mendoza said the team wants Lindor to play back-to-back games before activation. With no minor league contests scheduled for Monday, the Mets plan a simulated game for him at Citi Field followed by a rest day on Tuesday.

"He’s getting close," Mendoza said. Lindor had been batting .226 with two home runs and two stolen bases in 24 games before a strained left calf sidelined him.

Upon activation he is expected to resume duties at shortstop, shifting Bo Bichette to third base and moving Brett Baty into a super utility role.
