Gothic remake physical copies need day one update

Physical copies of the upcoming Gothic remake will require a day one patch to play. The publisher confirmed this after early copies revealed the issue on May 22.

The Gothic remake's physical versions cannot be played without first downloading an update of around 5 GB. This applies to copies sent out early ahead of the June 5 launch on consoles and PC. The publisher stated that no permanent internet connection is needed after the initial download.

Following initial reports of a 30-day online validation for PS4 digital games, new tests confirm the requirement applies to PS5 as well. Spawn Wave demonstrated PS5 failure after CMOS battery removal, while PlayStation support agents give conflicting explanations. Sony remains silent on the anti-piracy measure.
