Grief lingers for family of last identified victim in Air India crash

One year after the Air India flight AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad, the Khimani family continues to struggle with the loss of 35-year-old Anil Khimani, the last passenger victim identified.

Anil Khimani, an experienced craftsman from Dahinsara village in Gujarat’s Kutch, died in the June 12, 2025, crash of Air India flight AI-171 shortly after takeoff for London Gatwick. The flight killed 260 people, including 241 on board and 19 on the ground. His remains were identified on June 27, 2025, after weeks of waiting for a DNA match.
