The Grand Rapids Griffins have signed goaltender Trey Augustine to an amateur tryout agreement for the rest of the 2025-26 season. Augustine, a Detroit Red Wings prospect, also agreed to a three-year entry-level contract with the NHL club starting in 2026-27.
Augustine, selected by the Red Wings in the second round of the 2023 NHL Draft, completed his junior year at Michigan State University with a 24-9-1 record, 2.11 goals-against average, .929 save percentage and three shutouts. Those numbers earned him Big Ten Goaltender of the Year honors and a spot as a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. Over three seasons with the Spartans, he posted a 66-25-7 mark, 2.40 GAA, .922 save percentage and nine shutouts. The South Lyon, Michigan native has shone internationally, capturing two gold medals in 2024 and 2025, plus a bronze in 2023 at the IIHF World Junior Championship for the United States. He also earned a bronze and a silver at the under-18 world championships.
