Gujarat Police launched Operation Milap in early May to reopen pending missing persons cases across the state. Between May 7 and May 21, officers traced 701 people and reunited them with their families.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi confirmed the figures and noted that the government supplied necessary resources for the effort. The operation draws on technical and human intelligence along with fresh field verifications.
Additional Director General of Police Ajay Choudhary said teams reviewed old case files and checked digital records, social media activity, transport locations and shelter homes. Some cases involve trafficking networks. Since 2007, authorities have recorded 24,767 missing persons reports in Gujarat.
