Hong Kong taxi fleet ends ties with driver after mid-road stop

Amigo taxi fleet has ended its collaboration with a driver following an incident in Tsuen Wan where the vehicle stopped in the middle of Castle Peak Road to let passengers out.

A video posted online on Friday showed two passengers with suitcases crossing lanes of traffic near Global Plaza after the taxi halted on the road. Buses and other vehicles passed on both sides of the stopped cab.

Amigo issued a statement on Friday confirming the termination of its collaboration with the driver. The fleet said a preliminary investigation found the passengers had booked an airport trip from Ma On Shan but gave repeated instructions along the route.

The Transport Department has requested a report from the operator. The video attracted critical comments on social media, with viewers questioning the decision to stop in that location.
