Huddinge IK promoted to U20 Nationell after 13 years

Huddinge IK has secured promotion to the top Swedish junior league U20 Nationell for the first time since 2013. The move aims to bridge the gap between junior and senior hockey in the club and increase opportunities for local players to reach the A-team.

Sportchef Björn Jonason described the achievement as highly valuable for the club's long-term development. He noted that the team performed well during the spring campaign to earn the spot.

The club has historically produced talents including Michael Nylander and Linus Klasen. In recent years, fewer players advanced to the senior level, prompting renewed focus on youth structures.

Jonason highlighted the roughly one million kronor in added costs for the higher division. He stressed the sporting benefits, such as more match experience and a clearer path from junior to A-team hockey.

Huddinge and Sollentuna are the two new Stockholm-area teams in the league. The club plans to prioritize survival in its first season back while building a competitive roster.
