Hyundai Motor Group to acquire remaining Boston Dynamics stake

Hyundai Motor Group plans to acquire the remaining 9.65 percent stake in Boston Dynamics after SoftBank exercises its put option.

Hyundai Motor Group acquired an 80 percent stake in Boston Dynamics for 1 trillion won in 2021. Its ownership has since risen to 90.35 percent, with SoftBank holding the remaining 9.65 percent.

The group did not disclose the expected purchase price. It has been seeking opportunities to increase its ownership as part of its long-term robotics strategy.

The group plans to deploy Atlas, Boston Dynamics' humanoid robot, at its Metaplant America beginning in 2028. The robots will initially support parts sequencing before expanding to component assembly by 2030.
