Immolation unleashes 'Attrition' single and video from forthcoming Descent album

Following the announcement of their twelfth album Descent (out April 10 via Nuclear Blast), death metal stalwarts Immolation have released the second single 'Attrition' with a music video directed by guitarist Robert Vigna. The track delves into themes of endless wars and highlights drummer Steve Shalaty's dynamic performance, amid preparations for their North American tour.

Building on the January announcement of Descent—their twelfth studio album set for April 10 via Nuclear Blast—New York death metal veterans Immolation have now unveiled the second single, 'Attrition.' This preview track delivers crushing grooves, volatile rhythmic shifts, a slow suffocating tempo building to complex variations, and a devastating finale.

The music video, directed by guitarist Robert Vigna, amplifies the song's dark, cinematic atmosphere. The band stated: "We’re excited to release ‘Attrition’, another new track from our upcoming album Descent. This is a dark, powerful and intense song. ‘Attrition’ has a bleak and hopeless atmosphere… focusing on the senseless wars and territorial battles that humanity seems to repeat constantly, regardless of the cost."

They highlighted drummer Steve Shalaty's role: "Steve Shalaty’s drumming is a key element in this song, emphasizing the emotional intensity of the track, not only with a militaristic feel but with unique cymbal work and rhythmic twists that bring the musical sections to life." The band noted: "‘Attrition’ is a great example of the diverse nature of Descent: a catchy yet explosive track with all the elements of Immolation. We hope you enjoy it!"

'Attrition' follows the earlier single 'Adversary,' as Immolation gear up for their North American tour with Behemoth, Deicide, and Rotting Christ, kicking off April 14 in San Diego—details previously announced.
