Immolation announces twelfth album Descent for April release

New York death metal band Immolation has revealed details of its twelfth studio album, Descent, set for release on April 10 via Nuclear Blast Records. The announcement coincides with the debut of the single 'Adversary' and its accompanying music video. The album follows 2022's Acts of God and features extensive touring plans for 2026.

Immolation, pioneers of New York death metal since their 1991 debut Dawn of Possession, continues to shape the genre with Descent, their twelfth studio album. Scheduled for April 10, 2026, on Nuclear Blast Records, the record builds on recent works while nodding to early influences. Guitars, bass, and vocals were tracked at Jpass Music by Justin Passamonte, with drums recorded at Mercinary Studios alongside Noah Buchanan. The band collaborated with longtime engineer Zack Ohren for production, mixing, and mastering, yielding a high-fidelity sound marked by blast beats, dissonant riffs, and Ross Dolan's growls.

The band shared their enthusiasm in a statement: “We are really excited to release ‘Descent’ this year. The vibe and feel of this new one is almost addictive. We couldn’t be happier with how it came out and we can’t wait for everyone to hear it! This album takes what we’ve done on the last couple of records and truly brings it to a new level. The material stays true to our roots, but also goes into some new territory at times, being somewhat ambitious, but taking nods from even our earliest moments. We always strive to create interesting songs, and I believe we have achieved that on every track here. It’s truly one of the best records we’ve done, with an amazing production, atmosphere and flow. We look forward to playing it all live for you soon! Enjoy the ‘Descent’!”

The first single, 'Adversary,' showcases the band's intensity through merciless percussion and haunting leads, with a music video directed by guitarist Bob Vigna. Artwork features a cover by Eliran Kantor and internal illustrations by Santiago Jaramillo of Triple Seis Design.

Tracklist includes: 1. These Vengeful Winds, 2. The Ephemeral Curse, 3. God’s Last Breath, 4. Adversary, 5. Attrition, 6. Bend Towards The Dark, 7. Host, 8. False Ascent, 9. Banished, 10. Descent. (Note: Some reports omit 'Host.')

Supporting the release, Immolation joins Mayhem and Marduk on the Death Over Europe Tour in February 2026, spanning venues from Groningen to Gothenburg. Later, they tour North America with Behemoth, Deicide, and Rotting Christ on The Godless IV 2026 Tour from April 14 in San Diego to May 21 in Los Angeles, plus festival appearances at Rockstadt Extreme Fest and Brutal Assault.

Current lineup: Ross Dolan (bass/vocals), Robert Vigna and Alex Bouks (guitars), Steve Shalaty (drums). Pre-orders are available now.
