Iranian regime targets diaspora in France with collaborative website

Facing Israeli-American strikes, the Iranian regime launched a collaborative website called «Notre mémoire» to identify opponents abroad, including in France. Farid Vahid, a Franco-Iranian and co-director of the Observatoire du Nord et du Moyen-Orient, fears personal details about his family will be exposed. Tactics include anonymous calls and family pressure to silence dissent.

On March 26, 2026, Iran's official news agency Fars News announced on social media the launch of the «Notre mémoire» website. This collaborative platform calls on Iranians to submit «documentary evidence» to identify those who «have turned their back on the homeland and threaten national security» amid «external threats». Submissions include names, addresses, and other details on «traitors», even abroad.

Farid Vahid, also affiliated with the Fondation Jean Jaurès, anticipates his wife's name or his daughter's crèche appearing on Twitter soon. He stated: «When the war is over, if the regime does not fall, they will surely try to carry out attacks or reprisals in France. They will need to restore a form of deterrence».

This initiative fits a broader strategy by the regime, strained by Israeli-American strikes, employing anonymous calls, family pressures, and administrative blackmail to suppress diaspora opposition in France. An explicit threat circulates: «We’ll bring you back in a bag of rubble».

Following initial reactions from France's political class to the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in an Israeli-US strike, President Emmanuel Macron addressed the nation on Tuesday evening, the fourth day of the offensive against Iran. He discussed Khamenei's death, French military reinforcements in the Middle East, repatriation of nationals, criticized the strikes for breaching international law while blaming Tehran primarily, and called for an end to hostilities and diplomatic negotiations.

In Paris's Iranian neighborhood in the 15th arrondissement, news of Ali Khamenei's death from an Israeli-American attack has sparked mixed reactions in the diaspora. Many see it as the start of the Iranian people's liberation, while others fear fresh violence. Celebrations blend with apprehension in this exiled community.

Starting this Monday, four men born in Moldova will appear in French court for creating tags depicting coffins in reference to the Ukraine conflict. This case fits into a broader pattern of foreign interferences using paid 'proxies' since late 2023. Algerian, Russian, or Iranian services are involved in several such instances.

After over three years detained in Iran—including a recent conditional release from prison to house arrest at the French embassy—Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris are now fully free. They departed Tehran by road early Tuesday in a diplomatic convoy and reached Azerbaijan, bound for Paris on Wednesday. President Emmanuel Macron announced the news, crediting Omani mediators.
