Jade’s Wok sponsors Guyana’s national under-14 chess championship

Jade’s Wok, alongside Pinnacle Business Services and Cubs in Action International, is sponsoring the 2026 National Under-14 Rapid Chess Championship in Guyana. The event, set for February 7 at School of the Nations, will feature over 50 young players competing in open and girls categories. With last year’s champions aged out, new talents are poised to claim the titles.

The Guyana Chess Federation has announced that Jade’s Wok, Pinnacle Business Services, and Cubs in Action International are joint sponsors of the 2026 National Under-14 Rapid Chess Championship, underscoring their ongoing support for youth sports development in the country.

Scheduled for Saturday, February 7, the tournament will take place at School of the Nations, starting at 9:00 a.m. More than 50 players are expected to participate, vying for national rapid chess titles in both the open and girls categories. The competition will follow a Swiss System format over seven rounds, with a time control of 15 minutes plus a five-second increment per move.

This year’s event is anticipated to be highly competitive, as the 2025 champions, Nicholas Zhang in the open category and Emma John in the girls category, have aged out of eligibility. In the open category, promising contenders include Aiden Tinnie, the current under-12 open champion; Abel Fernandez Ciria, a former under-12 open champion; Vir Narine; Arian Tinne; and Javier Davenand, among others.

The girls category features a blend of emerging and experienced players, such as Kataleya Sam, a former under-12 girls champion; Divya Persaud, the 2026 under-12 girls champion; Saura Ruplall; Rebha Lachhman; Amaya Sharma; Chelsea Harrison; Sana Sreebalakumar; and Olivia Rajmangal.

Trophies will be awarded to the top five finishers in each category, with additional honors for the best under-10 and under-12 performers in both sections.

The federation expressed gratitude to the sponsors for their commitment to chess growth in Guyana. “We also wish to thank the School of the Nations, a steadfast partner that continues to provide a premier venue for the federation’s tournament for several years.
