The New York Mets placed Juan Soto on the 10-day injured list Saturday after an MRI revealed a Grade 2 strain of his left calf.
The move came before the Mets' game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Soto began feeling discomfort in his left calf during a July 16 game in Philadelphia and left Friday's contest after feeling additional pain.
Interim manager Andy Green said the team expects Soto to miss more than the 2.5 weeks he lost earlier this season to a right calf strain. "It's not what we were hoping for," Green said. "We'll be without him for a period of time now."
The Mets recalled infielder Eric Wagaman to fill the roster spot. Soto was batting .283 with 21 home runs in 84 games before the injury.
Green noted the Mets will consider Soto's long-term health given his 15-year contract. Soto is expected to return at some point in August or September.
