Kelly Clarkson wins The Voice's first all-star showdown

The April 6 episode of The Voice season 29 featured the final knockouts and the show's inaugural All-Star Showdown with returning past winners and finalists. Kelly Clarkson secured victory in the showdown, earning an extra finalist for her team. Three new contestants advanced from the knockouts while others were eliminated.

Coaches completed the season's final knockouts during the episode. On Team Adam, Jared Shoemaker defeated Jaali Boyd with a performance of Travis Tritt's 'Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde,' while Boyd sang Fergie's 'Big Girls Don't Cry.' Team Legend saw KJ Willis advance over Grace Humphries after singing Boyz II Men's 'I'll Make Love to You,' compared to Humphries' take on Paula Cole's 'I Don't Want to Wait.' Kelly Clarkson chose Mikenley Brown as the winner against Jonah Mayor, who performed Phil Collins' 'You'll Be In My Heart' from Disney's Tarzan; Brown sang Chappell Roan's 'Pink Pony Club.' Clarkson noted the pair's differences but praised Brown's growth potential despite a closer vocal matchup in her view. Former coach CeeLo Green returned to judge the All-Star Showdown, pitting alumni against each other. Clarkson selected season 21 winners Girl Named Tom for Kansas' 'Dust in the Wind,' which beat John Legend's Renzo on Aerosmith's 'Dream On.' Legend's Maelyn Jarmon then triumphed over Adam Levine's Jordan Smith with Sting's 'Fields of Gold' against Sia's 'Chandelier.' In the finale, Levine's Javier Colon sang Cyndi Lauper's 'Time After Time' but lost to Clarkson's Jake Hoot on The Eagles' 'Desperado.' Clarkson ended with two wins to one each for Legend and Levine, gaining the extra team slot.
